On the afternoon of Monday, February 25, 1907, a group of people met in the home of R.W. Browning for the purpose of organizing a Baptist Church in Cyril. The articles of faith and a Church Covenant were accepted. Those present covenanted together to try as best they could to be a church that follows Jesus Christ and glorifies our great God. They started a Sunday School that March. In 1927 a dedication service was set to lay the cornerstone for the first building built by the church. The cornerstone is in our foyer as a reminder of those who laid the spiritual foundation for our church.
A number of other events and ministries have occurred over the years. A mission was started in 1948 which is now Midway Baptist Church. The name was changed to First Baptist Church in 1962. We have been providing a safe, enjoyable place for children and families to go for Halloween for the past 30 years. Just recently a family went on a mission trip to a small church in Colorado to help in their Vacation Bible School, we provided school supplies to children in the Juarez Valley of Mexico, we rented a roll-off dumpster so a family could remove the remains of their burned home and we prepped and painted a house for an elderly widow.
Life in Cyril has changed over the last 100 plus years, but our mission remains the same, to follow Jesus Christ and glorify our great God.
