This next 6 week unit is titled, ”Living With Hope in a Broken World”.
Isn’t that an appropriate unit to study? Our world seems to get more broken every day!
The first lesson for Sunday June 7 is: “The Basis for Our Hope”
The Point;  Only Hope in Christ is Sure and Certain.
Scriptures; 1 Peter1 :1-9

This was written to the believers in Asia Minor, who were suffering because of their faith. Peter wanted to affirm their faith and to encourage them to persevere in times of trouble.  His basis was the certain hope through their faith in Jesus Christ. He wrote to five areas where Persecuted Jews were scattered.

Verses 1-3  is speaking to Jews who have been exiled from the land of Israel through the centuries because of various wars. Peter reminded them of the lively hope they have from Jesus’ resurrection from the dead and that they have the same reward even if their persecution leads to their death. Even we have the same assurances that eternal life awaits us.

Verses 4-5 reminds them and us of our inheritance that awaits us. It is incorruptible and won’t fade away because of the power of God who is able to keep it! Our faith in Him enables us to have the certain hope of eternal life!

In verses 6-9 Peter advises them to rejoice in the future God promises in-spite-of the trials we face. We have the Holy Spirit to give us strength through the trying times. He said the trials would be temporary and only last a season and then eternal life’s blessings would help to erase the trying times to nothing. Even though our time on earth seems unending, when we get to eternity, the blessings we will receive will make it worthwhile.
