The point: Humbly place the needs of others before your own
Scriptures: Philippians 2: 1-8,13-15
The book of Philippians paints a far better picture of humility and it points us to Jesus to see just how humility is to be carried out.
Paul was in prison and was ill. The Philippians Church heard about Paul’s circumstances and sent Epaphroditus with money and supplies to Paul.
Paul wrote to the Philippians to thank them and to explain why he was sending their messenger Epaphroditus back early to them.
He also had another reason to write, there had been some growing dissension in the church and Paul wanted them to remain united in Christ . Paul gave them four unifying factors as a basis .
He told them to be likeminded, to have the same love, to be of one accord , and to be of one mind.
He did not want them to be self-centered or ego driven.
He wanted them to have a healthy balance of their strengths and weakness.
The To look out for others needs and interests as much as they do themselves. He admonished them to see Jesus Christ as their example.
That example is a great one for us as well and follow his example of living.
We are to be lights in this perverse world. To shine on the darkness and let the light of Jesus shine. People will see that it is God working through us!
